How do I calculate my work hours for a year?
- Count the workdays in the year for your schedule. For Monday to Friday that is 260 to 262.
- Subtract paid holidays and days off: federal or company holidays, vacation and sick days.
- Multiply by hours per day to get hours worked. The paid hours stay at the full count if holidays and vacation are paid.
The calculator counts real calendar days for any year from 2024 to 2031, for any mix of workdays and hours per day, and can subtract observed federal holidays and your paid days off.

Worked examples
Example 1: 2026 with holidays and vacation
2026 has 261 weekdays. Minus 11 federal holidays = 250 days. Minus 15 days of vacation and sick time = 235 days, or 1,880 hours actually worked.
Example 2: a 37.5-hour week
At 7.5 hours a day, 2026's 261 weekdays are 1,958 hours, compared with the 1,950 you get from 37.5 × 52.
Example 3: effective hourly rate
A $60,000 salary over 2,080 paid hours is $28.85/hour. Spread over the 1,880 hours actually worked in the first example, it is $31.91 per hour worked.
Should I use 2,080 hours?
Use 2,080 to convert between hourly and annual pay; it is the convention almost every employer and payroll system uses. Use the real working days to plan staffing, billable-hour targets or a contractor's annual income. Use hours actually worked, after paid time off, to find your effective hourly rate. For one month at a time, see work hours per month.
